The Sad Truth About Hysterectomies

Uterine fibroids treatment

At least 1/3rd of the 600,000 hysterectomies performed each year are for uterine fibroids

This makes a hysterectomy the second most common surgery for women in the US; behind c-sections, but ahead of gallbladder, breast, and knee surgeries.

More than 95% of the 600,000 hysterectomies performed each year are not needed and could have been avoided with less invasive treatments developed within the last 15 years. Unfortunately, most women are told they have no alternates other than a hysterectomy when there are other viable options available for safely treating uterine fibroids.

Symptom relief is available without surgery, and without a hysterectomy

You don’t have to lose your uterus to eliminate uterine fibroid symptoms. Alternative treatments for uterine fibroids are available and include Uterine Fibroid Embolization.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)

UFE

Uterine fibroids, non-cancerous tumors that grow within the uterus, effect at least 20% of women age 30 and above.

Uterine fibroid embolization effectively treats these tumors through a procedure that doesn’t require invasive surgery or a hospital stay, and has a swift recovery time.

The procedure involves inserting a thin tube called a catheter either through the leg or wrist. Micro particles are injected through the catheter into the blood vessels that feed the fibroids. Once their supply of blood is cut off, the fibroids begin to shrink and die.

Nearly 90 percent of patients with fibroids who undergo UFE experience relief from their symptoms.
