July is Fibroid Awareness Month in Georgia. The observance was spearheaded by Tanika Gray Valbrun, founder of the White Dress Project. Mrs. Valbrun, who suffered from fibroids, is on a mission to bring awareness to the plight of women suffering from fibroids.
During Fibroid Awareness Month, I encourage women to monitor their monthly cycles. Women must pay attention to symptoms such as heavy monthly flow, pelvic pain, urinary frequency, constipation, and painful intercourse. If you or someone you know has any of these symptoms, you may have uterine fibroids. An ultrasound will confirm the diagnosis.
Dr. Neel Patel, Medical Director and Founder of the Minimally Invasive Center of Atlanta, made the rounds on Atlanta radio stations in the month of July to educate women on the causes and symptoms associated with uterine fibroids. He also discussed the latest UFE technique
e which is performed through the wrist. He appeared with Monica Kaufman Pearson on Kiss 104 and on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show with Head Crack, Da Brat, and Gary with the Tea. The fibroid expert appeared on the Porsche Foxx Show on Old School 87.7 and on Streetz 94.5 with Yung Joc, Mo Quick and Shawty. Dr. Patel was also featured in Rolling Out Magazine.
