As health fair season descends upon the Metro Atlanta area I prepare myself mentally and physically to connect with the hundreds of women I’ll encounter as an attend dozens of corporate and community health fairs where I will be asked about UFE vs Hysterectomy as treatment options for uterine fibroids.
There isn’t a health fair that doesn’t include dozens of women who are secretly suffering in silence as they try to hide their symptoms. Some women are literally padded up to the hilt as they try to avoid accidents at work. After all, who wants to leave a big round red stain in their work chair.
Believe it or not, it happens all the time. I’ll also encounter the proud, slightly older, more seasoned women who have already dealt with their fibroids but have had their uterus removed as known as hysterectomy.
I remember attending a corporate health fair recently where I met so many wonderful women who are engrossed in their careers and providing services to the masses in the Metro, but I was also a bit surprised to learn of all the women who had suffered from fibroids and elected to have a hysterectomy.
Many are doing quite well after hysterectomy, while others regret the decision to remove a body part. They no longer have the female part that allowed them to give birth and many are happy about because they don’t have any more children, but the others wished someone had told them about UFE (Uterine Fibroid Embolization).
With UFE, you get to keep your uterus and for some women that makes a big difference, and it makes them feel more like a woman. The bottom line is, despite how you decide to treat your fibroids, make sure you know all of your options. You can choose surgery, hysterectomy, or you can choose UFE. With UFE, there’s no hospital stay, you get to go home the same day with a band-aid and the recovery time is about a week. Symptom Free With UFE!
